Excellent migration project with a nationally recognised brand
Data Solution Architect (Contract)

Why You’d Like It

If you are an architect who thrives on large-scale transformation and wants to leave a lasting impact, this is a unique opportunity. You’ll be joining a major migration initiative at the heart of an enterprise-level data modernization project. With over 50 source systems being transitioned to a modern cloud-native environment, this role offers the perfect balance of strategic design and hands-on solutioning. You’ll be working within a high-performing architecture team that values clean design, pragmatic integration, and collaborative problem-solving, all while using a modern tech stack (Snowflake, Airflow, dbt).

The Story

This organisation is currently embarking on a significant phased, organic data migration programme. They are moving away from legacy on-premise SQL Server platforms to a modern cloud data platform. Rather than a singular "big bang" release, this is a deliberate, structured project to migrate over 50 systems and support 50+ downstream consumers over the next 6 to 8 months. You’ll be joining a team of architects who are collaborating closely with engineering and governance groups to manage dependencies and drive this transition forward.

Company Profile

You will be joining a highly respected, large-scale enterprise organisation that is committed to driving data-informed decisions. They operate with a sophisticated technology environment and place a strong emphasis on scalable, robust data architecture. This is an environment where your designs will directly influence how data is ingested, transformed, and utilized across the entire business.

Your Role

This is a consultative role focused on end-to-end solution architecture—you won’t be doing the manual coding, but you will be the architect responsible for how it all fits together. Your core responsibilities include:
  • Engaging with source system teams, business stakeholders, and engineering leads to map data flows, identify dependencies, and navigate constraints.
  • Leading design workshops and presenting viable architectural options to the technology governance forum, ensuring alignment with strategic outcomes.
  • Defining and governing integration patterns, including batch, file-based, and event-driven data movement.
  • Developing high-level solution architectures and logical data designs for ingestion, transformation, and consumption.
  • Providing architectural guidance on data modelling, security, metadata management, and quality standards.
  • Balancing high-level strategy with practical implementation realities, ensuring solutions remain cost-effective and scalable.
Benefits
  • A 6-month contract engagement with a clear, high-impact mandate.
  • The opportunity to work with a modern, high-growth technology stack (Snowflake, S3, Airflow, dbt).
  • Work within a collaborative team environment alongside experienced data architects and engineering leads.
  • Flexibility and autonomy in how you approach design challenges.
Your Fit

To succeed in this role, you’ll need a blend of technical expertise and the ability to navigate a complex enterprise environment. You’ll need:
  • Significant experience in data architecture and large-scale data migration/modernization programs.
  • Deep expertise in data ingestion, staging, transformation, and warehouse patterns.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills—you are comfortable presenting to non-technical stakeholders and navigating governance forums.
  • Practical experience with cloud data platforms like Snowflake, DBT, and HVR.
  • A pragmatic mindset; you understand that the "perfect" architecture must also be deliverable within timelines and constraints.
  • Ability to balance multiple project workstreams and provide guidance to data engineering and product teams.
  • Industry background: You don’t need specific banking experience, but you do need to understand the rigour of an enterprise-level environment.
