Excellent 6 month Contract for an experienced Java - Fullstack Developer
Why You’d Like It
This is a contract for a Java Developer who loves the technical nuts and bolts of security, infrastructure, and performance, but still wants a life outside of work. Based in Albany, this role offers a premium hourly rate and the kind of genuine flexibility that sees most of the team heading home by 2:00 PM to beat the motorway traffic and finishing up from the comfort of their couch.
The Story
With several major initiatives kicking off simultaneously, a number of the core engineering team have been seconded to specialized projects. To keep the engine room running smoothly, there is a need for a reliable, sharp Java Engineer to step in for a six-month stint, ensure the core products remain secure, and keep the daily development pipeline moving without a hitch.
Company Profile
This Albany-based SaaS business creates world-class products that are utilized on a global scale. Despite their international reach, the local vibe is collaborative, down-to-earth, and completely devoid of corporate stuffiness. They pride themselves on building smart software and fostering an environment where engineers actually enjoy turning up to work every day.
Your Role
Working across a modern tech stack featuring Java, AWS, React, and Node.js, your day-to-day focus will be a mix of maintenance, security hardening, and optimization.

- Reviewing environments to identify and reduce exposure, specifically tackling exposed ports and services.
- Implementing Web Application Firewalls (WAF) in front of core products and meticulously testing for compatibility.
- Assisting the wider team with test automation utilizing Playwright where required.
- Contract Term: 6-month initial contract with excellent market hourly rates.
- Flexibility: 4 days in the Albany office, but with highly adaptable hours
- Culture: A supportive, highly collaborative team environment with top-tier tooling.
The ideal candidate is a practical, self-starting developer who enjoys the challenge of securing and optimizing cloud-based applications.
- Strong commercial experience engineering with Java.
- Practical, hands-on knowledge of AWS environments and containerization.
- Exposure to, or a solid understanding of, frontend/backend modern JavaScript tools (React, Node.js).
- Prior experience or familiarity with automated testing tools like Playwright is a significant plus.
- A proactive attitude toward security, patch management, and system resilience.
