The Story

The engineering team is evolving. Under the guidance of a new VP of Architecture, the business is scaling its architectural function and sharpening its focus on large-scale transactional systems. This is a greenfield opportunity to help build an architecture practice from the ground up with minimal red tape. They are moving away from a previous mobile-specific focus and are now looking for a heavy-hitting backend specialist to future-proof their global SaaS and IoT ecosystem.

Your Role

As a Principal Engineer, you will be a member of the Senior Engineering Leadership Team, acting as a technical mentor and a champion for "what good looks like".

• Lead Technical Design: Drive the design of robust, scalable systems across IoT, Cloud, and Data domains.
• Hands-on Contribution: Stay close to the tools by writing code, prototyping high-risk features, and conducting architectural reviews.
• Set Standards: Partner with Chapter Leads to promote best practices in clean code, microservices, and event-driven architecture.
• Strategic Alignment: Work with Product and Architecture teams to ensure the technical roadmap supports long-term business goals.
• Quality & Reliability: Advocate for system performance, observability, and security while tackling technical debt proactively.
• Incident Leadership: Provide critical guidance and root-cause analysis during production incidents.

Your Fit

We are looking for a seasoned engineer who thrives on solving deep technical puzzles and leading through influence rather than just authority.

• Experience: You have significant experience in software engineering with experience as a Lead, high level senior or principal engineer
• Java Mastery: You possess expert-level knowledge of Java and modern development frameworks.
• Architectural Depth: You are highly skilled in distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native environments (AWS or Azure).
• Modern Tooling: You are proficient with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Mentorship: You have a proven track record of growing senior engineers and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
• Mindset: You are a proactive self-starter who remains resilient in high-growth, fast-paced environments.
